Boy, 15, kills himself after ‘facing expulsion and being put on sex offender registry’ for STREAKING at high school football game.

 

I just. Can’t. Even.

WHY.

Congratulations, Alabama, your so-called “family values” have just driven an innocent child over the edge.  He was just a kid being a kid.  You could have given him Saturday school and been done with it, not pressed these unnecessary charges.  There was no victim and you know there was no captive audience.  Yes you do – anybody in that open air stadium could have turned away.  Yet, you still made it a sex crime simply because certain arbitrary demarcations of skin were uncovered.  Hell, even the Christian university I attended had a brief streaking phase back in the 1970s and I assure you its reputation is no worse off because of it.  Yes, the suicide was his choice, but damn it, that’s beside the point.  Are we really all so repressed that a goofy, adolescent boy off in the distance – one who was trusted, well-liked, and probably has never raped anyone or had any sex in general – is such a monstrous threat to our mental well-being?  I hope the Sparkman administrators lose all the sleep over this.  As for the rest of you, in the words of the late and great Bill Hicks, “Folks, it’s time to evolve.”
