Piece of the Week – 8/8/2014

You’ll either really like or really dislike this guy’s work. Stephen Melillo, I think, is basically the Michael Bay of band composers – he offers a fun ride, but should steer clear of trying to appear profound because he just ends up looking like a douche. Hm? Nah, Mackey’s more the Quentin Tarantino but I see your point.

Piece of the Week – 8/1/2014

It’s a little late this time…but I’ve got one more David Maslanka piece for you – this is one of his latest works, the 9th Symphony for narrator and wind band. As with many of Maslanka’s works, this symphony draws its melodies from hymns and Bach chorales.
